Woollahra House

Primarily a renovation of existing spaces, the project is also planned to excavate for an additional car space and to improve access and flow through the house. Originally executed as one of the first ‘open plan’ terrace renovations in the area some 20 years ago, the existing house has the bones to generate something special, however, poor planning in earlier re-design's see this gem of a house in need of a contemporary rethink of arrangement of spaces, amenity and materiality. The existing layout provides a good case study in questioning the notion of ‘open plan at all cost’, but, as the new design proposes, adopts a sensibility towards definition, arrangement and logic.
